MINISTRY TO THE POOR

Lakewood decided to become a participating church in the Inter-Church Ministries Voucher program. When a needy person comes to the church asking for financial assistance, the pastor has access to the ICM database to verify if the person has been helped before, eliminating "double-dipping," and many con-artists. The pastor is then able to write a voucher for the person's need, be it gas, food, lodging, or other emergency need. To become a participating church, it is recommended that churches donate $250 to the pool of funds available. Last year ICM was able to share $10,000+ to the needy in Erie County. If you would like to donate the help us become a member, mark your donation "ICM fund."

WEST MILLCREEK FOOD PANTRY

We're continuing to collect items for the food pantry. Items needed are: Soup, spaghetti, cereal, tuna, fruit, peanut butter, mac & cheese, toilet tissue, baked beans, bar soap, or any non-perishable items.

 .

ALUMINUM CANS

We are still collecting aluminum cans (no metal food cans) to benefit a future mission activity. Please place them in the bin in the center entry way.

CAMPBELL'S LABEL PROJECT

Many thanks to all who have been saving their Campbell's soup UPCs!  Over 1000 of them will be divided between the Lakewood Preschool and the Henderson Settlement. This is a wonderful mission opportunity for Lakewood. It is really cool that people can benefit from something most folks throw away! as usual, all you have to do is clip the UPC      with the "label's for education" logo from the Campbell's products that you already buy. If it is easier for you to remove the entire label, that is OK too.  You can leave them in the drawer in the education office or give them to Sharon Swanson.

THE REFUGE NEEDS YOUR HELP

Several years ago, Lakewood accepted the request to provide toilet paper for the Refuge. Until recently, it had been a long time since we had any reminders. There is now a blue plastic tub in the narthex to hold TP donations. Toward the end of the month all the donations will be delivered to the Refuge. Thanks for your support!

PARAGUAY STUDENTS

Since 2006, Lakewood has sponsored two students who attend Nuevo Horizonte (New Horizon). This is a private Christian school in Paraguay founded by Mark and Joanna Waltz, United Methodists who reside in Erie. Sebastion is 7 and in the 2nd grade. Elvira is 11 and in the 6th grade.

The cost to educate one child at Nuevo Horizonte is only $420 a year which includes lunch, books and supplies.  You have seen the "CHANGE THE WORLD" bucket next to the pulpit every Sunday. This is the main source of funding to sponsor our two children. There are red cups available in the narthex that you can use to collect your change throughout the week then bring in on Sunday to place in the bucket. You can also make a tax-deductible donation by writing a check to "Samaritan Hands/Paraguay" and placing in the bucket.

Thank you for your continued support and let's "Change the World" one student at a time!

RECYCLING AT LAKEWOOD continues and improves!  We are still collecting aluminum cans for our Mission Trip fund.  Please put your cans in the center entryway.  Have you noticed the NEW RECYCLING BINS at various places in the church? (Narthex, office, Library).  Please do your part at placing clean recyclables (paper, plastic and bottles) in these bins.  We continue to have 2 large recycling bins in the kitchen for your use.  Thanks for your help in being a good steward of God's earth
